KETEK

One of special food from Gresik is called ketek. It is made of the glutinous rice (beras ketan) and cooked using the special water called ketek. That’s way people call the food ketek. The food tested yummy and rather salty. The taste comes from ketek water. People eat the food with the grated coconut and sugar or red sugar.
People take the water from the well in Sekar kurung village in Kebomas district. The price of a large pailful of the water is one thousand rupiahs. The price increases when malam selaweh (the night of 24th days in Ramadhan) comes.
Many people around Giri village make the food on that day and then sell the food. Many Muslim come to the grave of Sunan Giri in malam selaweh and buy the special food from Gresik.
